Photo: Denis Smith Last weekend I raced Beacon Cyclocross race for the first time in many years. I came to this race on some pretty bad terms, but I was there to race none-the-less even if my head was not into it. This year boasted the same great course and some fantastic east coast fall weather which I was very excited to taste over the course of my 10 day berevement tour. Homebasing it at my folks house in Northern New Jersey I filled up the Ford Focus rental and zoomed south to Bridgeton some 3 hours away. Beacon could have been a nice reunion of sorts but I was really not feeling it so I keep to myself and talked to some folks as they recognized me but I did not seek out anyone nor did I look for any attention. My brain, body and soul had been through a lot in the past week and I was just there to soak up something familiar and peddle the bike on one of my favorite cyclocross courses to date. Wade Hess is the promoter and course designer and by golly he has one awesome race course, not overly technical but fast, flowing and full of character. I pinned on a number for the M35+ elite race and lined up at the back, the start is long and open making for some quick ground to be made up fast.
